Intro to Botanical Dyes - Saturday May 24 - 10am to 12pm $75

In this two-hour workshop led by instructor Keely Angel of Collective Hand Natural Dye Studio, you'll gain an understanding of how to work with natural dyes, including roots, flowers, bark, and even kitchen waste! We will explore immersion dyeing, making a dye vat to submerge your fabric, creating an even color across the fabric, and bundle dyeing, which involves layering materials onto the fabric to create a beautiful pattern and your own design. You will leave with the confidence to dye using these materials at home, as well as a hand dyed silk scarf and swatches of your creation.

This workshop will cover:

Necessary tools

Safety measures

Natural dyeing materials and supplies

Preparing fabrics, including scouring and mordanting processes

How to make your own dye pot (immersion dyeing)

How to bundle dye on silk and cotton (creating botanical prints from flowers, leaves, roots and more)

You will design your own one-of-a-kind silk scarf

Class fee includes instruction and all the necessary supplies and materials (including dyestuffs and fabrics).
