Four weeks | Thursday 1:00-3:30pm | January 8 – 29 | Materials Fee $35
Ready to kick up your jewelry-making skills? Then it’s time to start using the torch! We’ll learn how to use fire to solder metal joints with a butane torch in this 2.5-hour weekly class. Projects may include copper and brass rings, bracelets and/or pendants, and are suited to students who are new to soldering, or who need a refresher. Experience in sawing and filing will help. Course fee: $125. Materials fee $35.
Materials to Bring
- Mask for dust
- Plastic safety glasses
- A small sketchbook & pencil
- An apron
Brief Syllabus:
The course will start with a general introduction to the torch, solder, pickling, and to studio safety. You’ll then design your pieces of jewelry and learn how to melt solder to attach two pieces of metal. You’ll have of time to practice with the torch before committing to your final projects. After firing, learn how to clean up your piece and make it shine!
