Art of Being Half Day Immersion

We’ll spend our time in meditation, movement (chair stretching), conversation, and creative co-working. Come explore the themes of attention, resistance, discipline, inertia, play and more.

The day begins with guided meditation and movement to focus the mind and open the body with the intention to begin the creative process from a more embodied and grounded state. Then we will do a couple writing prompts to help get into the flow followed by a short discussion of writings from artists around their process. 

The heart of the immersion is a generous period of uninterrupted creative work. There are many ways to spend this time, but what has been most helpful for previous students is the container of time that you are committing to. 

You are welcome to return to an existing project, start something new, or experiment with a medium that is new to you. We have had writers, painters, poets and people who haven’t picked up an art project in decades. There is no particular outcome to achieve and no expectation to produce something finished.

Four Tuesdays | September 8- September 29 |6PM-8PM |$140 | $20 Materials Fee

Discover the soothing rhythm of meditative drawing by blending the structured, repetitive patterns of the Zentangle® method with the elegant, circular format of the mandala. In this four-week immersive program, students will explore the unique art of the Zendala—using round paper tiles to create intricate, radiating designs.

Each two-hour session guides participants through the eight foundational steps of Zentangle, focusing on drawing structured patterns in circular forms and the beauty of deliberate lines. Students will learn how to work with pre-strung layout guidelines, design free-form organic circular tiles, master advanced shading techniques to add three-dimensional depth, and subtly introduce color. By the end of the program, participants will have a stunning portfolio of circular artwork and a personal practice for mindfulness and creative expression.

We are very excited to have local artist, MaryAnn Goodwin teaching watercolor at the Jersey Shore Arts Center!

Reserve your spot in this fun, relaxing and informative class.  MaryAnne will be teaching old and new watercolor techniques along with some color theory.  This is the perfect atmosphere for beginners and for those intermediate watercolorists that want to continue and build on their watercolor experience and knowledge.

Brushes: (Make sure they are watercolor brushes .)

Large 1”inch flat Large 12 round. Medium 6-8 round, fine 2 -0 round.

Paper: 140lb cold press watercolor paper.  9x12 or 10x14 (Fabriano is a good student quality; Arches is the best but can be pricey.)

Painters tape not masking.

Board: A stiff board to tape your watercolor paper; can be plastic, or corrugated board

Paint palette with reservoirs to put paint and a large area for mixing

Plastic cups for water

Paper towels

Pencils HB, or H

4 Saturdays | September 12 – October 3 | 10:00AM–1:00PM | $125 | Materials Fee $35 

Ready to kick up your jewelry-making skills? Then it’s time to start using the torch to create seamless metal designs! Learn how to use a butane torch to solder metal joints in this 3-hour weekly class. Projects will include copper/brass saddle rings and pendants. Prior experience in sawing and filing metal helpful. Must be 18 and older. Course fee: $125. Materials fee $35.

Brief

After an introduction to the torch, safety precautions, types of solder, flux, pickling and soldering tools, you’ll create a ring and a pendant by using a small butane torch to melt solder so you can seamlessly attach different pieces of metal.

Pastel Impressionism with Gina Torello

Mondays: September 14 – October 19  |10:00am -12:30pm| 6 week 2 ½  hour class  $140.00 session                                                                           

Explore the forgiving and simple media of soft pastels. References will be provided varying in subject matter and style. Working together as a class in a step by step manner you discover how a professional artist begins, creates and finishes a work of art. This method of teaching gives you confidence and allows you freedom to develop your own style. Color theory, application methods and diverse techniques are used to teach you use of texture and dimension in your paintings. Every session you can always count on new and exciting references that I will teach from. All levels are always welcome. A supply list is below.

Gelli Plate Printmaking

Five Mondays |September 14- October 12| 6pm-8pm 

Course description:

This Gelli Plate Class is suitable for anyone wanting to explore gel plate printing using a variety of printing styles and ideas.  Each class will challenge you to use your Gelli Plate in different ways. Perfect for artists who want to explore different ways of creating abstract design. Markmaking and handcoloring tools will be available to enhance your designs. No experience necessary. 

Beginner and Advanced Students welcome. Participants must purchase their own Gelli Plate for the course. 

$10 Materials fee collected at the beginning of the class.

Tap into your creativity in this relaxed and fun basic drawing class. Each class will have step-by-step instructions on how to draw from a provided reference. We will also explore various mediums, including pencils, pastels and watercolor. Students of all levels will enjoy an inspiring, judgment-free atmosphere while receiving guidance and encouragement to enhance your skills.
