Fun with Abstract Painting

This class is for artists of all levels, whether you are just curious, starting out painting, or an experienced artist, this is an opportunity to paint in different ways and express yourself in an intangible manner.  There is no pressure to make your work look like anything in particular, and the more we give up expectations, the more enjoyable the painting experience!

Example classes: Mark Making, Music/Rhythm, Shapes, Balance, Expressing Emotions …

Materials will be provided. A suggested material list will be emailed upon registration.

Tap into your creativity in this relaxed and fun basic drawing class. Each class will have step-by-step instructions on how to draw from a provided reference. We will also explore various mediums, including pencils, pastels and watercolor. Students of all levels will enjoy an inspiring, judgment-free atmosphere while receiving guidance and encouragement to enhance your skills.

Printmaking Paper & Collage: Make your our own printed textured paper! We will explore various printmaking techniques including Gelli® printing, that are simple and can be done right at home. We will then use this paper for 2 collage projects. Project samples will be provided.

Materials List:

Students will need to purchase their own 5x7 or 8x10 Gelli® plate.

You can purchase Gelli® plates at: Michael's, Amazon or Blick.

All other supples will be provided by instructor.

Plein-air Oil Painting at the Jersey Shore

Plein-air Oil Painting at the Jersey Shore

Instructor Gina Torello has designed this Plein Air class down on the boardwalk in Asbury Park and Ocean Grove. She will demonstrate each session as everyone follows along painting the  same subject matter as she instructs from inception to completion. Each painting will take two weeks start to finish. Lessons will be on the Carousel in Asbury Park, the Tent City in Ocean Grove, and the Jetty on 6th Ave north of Convention Hall all while painting alongside a master Plein Air artist. This is a one of a kind experience all local artist do not want to pass up. The first 12 Artists will be supplied with a New Wave Pochade Easel to use during your exclusive lessons down in these quaint seashore towns and a comfortable plein-air chair to use as you paint. This pleasurable and rewarding class will cover compositional structure, color theory, application of materials and most of all the process of capturing the LIGHT in the open air like the Impressionists. All levels of oil painting artists are welcomed. Must be physically able to stand for three hours and mobile to move about outside with all your supplies in a backpack. We will meet at the Jersey Shore Arts Center our first class. Detailed Supply list below

KIDS Creative Workshops

Ages 10 to 12 | May 11 & June 8 | 2 PM - 4 PM | Studio 3

In these two workshops, children will dive into different and fun artistic explorations that foster creative thinking. Drawing, painting, mixed media and 3D projects will be explored. A pleasant and encouraging atmosphere will lead to deepening their understanding and appreciation of art.

Inspiration will derive from the life and work of the famous artists: Kusama and Matisse (1st workshop), Kandinsky and Picasso (2nd workshop). The Spring, Summer themes will be explored.

Urban Street Sketching in Asbury Park and Ocean Grove

Instructor Gina Torello has designed this Urban Sketching Class in the heart of our iconic downtown. Detailed perspective lessons will take place out on the streets of our local quaint towns. Instruction will be given on how to sketch using various drawing materials. The key to success is learning linear perspective, using a visual grid to aid in proportion skills and understanding how to properly shade to create depth. The first 12 Artists will be supplied with a New Wave Pochade Easel to use during your exclusive lessons down in these quaint seashore towns and a comfortable plein-air chair to use as we draw with various materials, supply list below. Each week we will meet in different location with new and exciting lessons and exciting subject matter to enjoy. Great way to welcome spring, enjoy the fresh air and take your own work of art home with you. All levels always welcome. We will meet at the Jersey Shore Arts Center the first class.
